The purpose of this consultancy is to support the next phase of Botswana's PrEP Ring introduction pathway by promoting policy engagement, stakeholder readiness, strategic advocacy, and evidence-based decision-making to facilitate the inclusion of the PrEP Ring within national HIV prevention guidelines and support its future phased introduction.
Building on the achievements of the Transition to Scale project and subsequent dissemination and advocacy activities, this consultancy will provide technical oversight, stakeholder coordination, documentation, and strategic engagement support to strengthen the enabling environment for the introduction and future scale-up of the PrEP Ring as part of Botswana's HIV prevention options package.
Background
Jhpiego Botswana, in collaboration with IPM South Africa, an affiliate of the Population Council previously implemented the Transition to Scale PrEP Ring community engagement and advocacy project to strengthen community awareness, stakeholder engagement, and policy dialogue around the Dapivirine Vaginal Ring (DVR/PrEP Ring) as an additional HIV prevention option for women in Botswana.
During that phase, Jhpiego and partners generated valuable evidence and stakeholder feedback/insights, developed and disseminated advocacy products, engaged HIV policymakers and technical stakeholders, facilitated discussions with the National HIV Guidelines Committee, and increased awareness around the safety, acceptability, and potential public health value of the PrEP Ring within Botswana's HIV prevention package of services.
Through these discussions, stakeholders expressed increasing support for expanding HIV prevention options while identifying several areas that require further engagement, including policy development, implementation planning, service delivery models, stakeholder readiness, and introduction pathways.
Building on these achievements and the substantial investments already made in community engagement, stakeholder consultations, dissemination of evidence, and policy engagement, Jhpiego Botswana, in collaboration with IPM South Africa and the Population Council, is implementing a new phase of activities to strengthen the enabling environment for PrEP Ring introduction in Botswana. This phase will focus on furthering policy engagement, supporting evidence-based decision-making, strengthening stakeholder readiness, promoting client-centered advocacy, engaging private sector providers and champions, facilitating regional/global learning exchanges, and positioning Botswana for phased pilot introduction and future scale up of the PrEP Ring as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention options package.
Jhpiego is therefore seeking a short-term consultancy to provide technical, coordination, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and documentation support to accelerate progress towards the inclusion of the PrEP Ring in national policy and guidelines, introduction readiness, and sustainable implementation of the PrEP Ring in Botswana
The consultancy will focus on three key areas:
