The AFGHS-Jhpiego project is funded by the U.S. Department of State (DoS) to support the delivery of lifesaving, comprehensive maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) and malaria services across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. It aims to improve service and data quality, strengthen health-system integration and resilience, facilitate effective transition, and promote local ownership and accountability for sustained health outcomes.
Jhpiego works closely with the Ministries of Health in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, the Reproductive and Child Health Section (RCHS), the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP), and Regional Administration and Local Government (RALG) structures to align implementation with national priorities and strengthen locally led implementation and oversight.
The Lead Project Driver provides safe, reliable, and timely transport and logistics support to the project team by operating and maintaining an assigned project vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition. The role supports transportation of staff, government counterparts, visitors, project materials, commodities, and other approved property for project activities and supports route planning, field logistics, vehicle documentation, and fuel management.
Supervised by the Administrator and working under the functional guidance and mentorship of the Lead Driver, the Lead Project Driver operates in accordance with Jhpiego transport, Vehicle and Motorcycle Use, Fuel Use, road safety, maintenance, and other applicable policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as the Tanzania Road Traffic Act. The Project Lead Driver is responsible for the condition and appropriate use of the assigned vehicle, timely reporting of maintenance and safety concerns, accurate vehicle and fuel documentation, and responsible and cost-efficient use of project resources.
The Lead Project Driver also supports field implementation and serves as an important point of observation during field travel and activities. The role is expected to demonstrate professionalism, accountability, confidentiality, and responsible stewardship of Jhpiego resources and to promptly report safety, compliance, or other questionable activities through established reporting channels.
