Overview

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. For more than 50 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego provides technical support to Ministries of Health across the globe in areas including HIV/AIDS, maternal and newborn health, family planning, health workforce development, cervical cancer prevention, malaria, and IPC/WASH. In Eswatini, Jhpiego is implementing the Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) project. RISE is a multi-country project funded by the U.S. Government to save lives and improve health through integrated, evidence-based approaches to address urgent gaps in lifesaving services. RISE works across all levels of the health system to strengthen the HIV/TB epidemic response, to limit the spread of deadly disease outbreaks through Global Health Security (GHS) programming, and to reduce preventable morbidity and mortality through integrated maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, tuberculosis (TB), and malaria services. Since 2019, RISE has supported programs in more than 25 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. 

 

Responsibilities

The Officer is responsible for supporting the collection, management, analysis, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory data. The role ensures the availability of accurate, timely, and complete laboratory information to support program monitoring, decision-making, quality improvement initiatives, and reporting requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, compile, verify, and maintain laboratory data from supported facilities and laboratories.
  • Ensure timely and accurate entry, validation, and submission of laboratory data into approved information systems and reporting platforms.
  • Perform routine data quality checks and support Data Quality Assessments (DQAs) to ensure completeness of data, accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Generate routine reports, summaries, and data visualizations to support laboratory performance monitoring and program reporting.
  • Monitor and track key laboratory indicators and assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Support the maintenance and updating of laboratory dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Analyze laboratory data, including audit findings, Proficiency Testing (PT) results, and quality indicators, and share findings.
  • Assist laboratory staff in data collection, reporting procedures, and the proper use of data management tools.
  • Support the implementation and use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other electronic health information systems.
  • Support lab data clerks to maintain laboratory databases and ensure confidentiality, security and proper management of laboratory information.
  • Collaborate with laboratory personnel, M&E teams and HMIS staff to ensure data harmonization and reporting compliance.
  • Participate in data review meetings and support the use of laboratory data for continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Document and escalate identified data quality issues and support corrective action implementation.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Health, Statistics, Health Informatics, Laboratory Sciences, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in data management, health information systems, laboratory programs, or monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience in data collection, data entry, validation, cleaning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of data quality assurance principles and health data management practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using DHIS2, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Power BI, or other data management and visualization platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prepare reports and present data in a clear and concise manner.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of MoH reporting systems and laboratory services programs will be an added advantage.
