Overview

 

The Reaching Impact, Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) project is funded by the U.S. Department of State (DoS) to support malaria prevention, diagnosis, treatment, surveillance, and monitoring and evaluation activities across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. Implemented in close collaboration with the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), the Zanzibar Malaria Elimination Programme (ZAMEP), and Regional Administration and Local Government (RALG) structures, the project strengthens alignment with national malaria strategies, improves service delivery quality, and enhances health system performance and resilience.

 

For a period of two (2) months, from June to July 2026, the Special Task Project Driver (PD) will provide dedicated transport and logistics support to the RISE team during the Targeted Mass Campaign (TMC) for Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) distribution in Lindi Region. Reporting to the Senior Program Officer, the Special Task PD will support TMC implementation through transportation, logistics coordination, and participation in ITN receipt, verification, and distribution activities. S/he will operate and maintain an assigned project vehicle in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition and ensure compliance with Jhpiego motor vehicle and fuel policies, and the Tanzania Road Traffic Act.

Responsibilities

 

 

  1. ITN Distribution and Logistics Support
  • Participate in the receipt, counting, verification, loading, unloading, and documentation of ITNs during campaign implementation activities.
  • Support transportation and distribution of ITNs and related materials in accordance with approved plans and procedures.
  • Safeguard ITNs and campaign materials while in transit and report any discrepancies, losses, or damages.
  1. Transport Services, Route Planning, and Campaign Deployment
  • Provide dedicated transport services to staff, partners, and authorized passengers supporting the ITN Targeted Mass Campaign in Lindi Region.
  • Support route planning, deployment schedules, and daily movement plans to ensure timely implementation of campaign activities.
  • Transport campaign materials, documentation, and project property in accordance with approved activity plans and distribution schedules.
  1. Vehicle Operation and Maintenance
  • Operate the assigned motor vehicle, fuel card, devices, and accessories strictly for approved project purposes and in compliance with applicable policies.
  • Ensure the assigned motor vehicle is always clean, well maintained, safe, and roadworthy.
  • Conduct routine vehicle checks and promptly report mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents to the supervisor.
  1. Documentation, Fuel, and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate vehicle usage, mileage, and fuel records, reconcile fuel consumption, and submit reports on time.
  • Ensure personal driving and vehicle documentation are valid, current, and properly maintained.
  • Comply fully with Jhpiego, and Tanzania Road Traffic Act requirements.
  1. Safety, Conduct, and Accountability
  • Observe all road safety requirements, traffic laws, and defensive driving practices.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct, courtesy, and respect when interacting with staff, partners, and community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard passengers, project property, and equipment during travel and field activities.
  1. Coordination and Additional Duties
  • Coordinate directly with the Senior Program Officer on transport schedules, vehicle maintenance requirements, and logistics support for campaign implementation activities.
  • Support coordination with district teams, warehouse personnel, distribution teams, and hired transport providers to facilitate timely implementation of campaign activities.
  • Perform other duties related to campaign implementation and project operations as assigned by the Senior Program Officer.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class “C” driving license. Certificate of Advanced Driver’s Grade Two (VIP) from the National Institute of Transport (NIT) is an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and ability to identify and report vehicle maintenance needs.
  • At least five (5) years of professional driving experience. Experience working with an international non-governmental organization (INGO) is desirable.
  • Experience supporting large-scale community-based campaigns or field operations in rural areas. Experience supporting ITN distribution campaigns or other public health commodity distribution activities is an added advantage.
  • Field-oriented and comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams, with the ability to interact professionally with project staff, government officials, service providers, and community stakeholders at all levels.
  • Willingness to be based in and operate throughout Lindi Region for the duration of the assignment.
  • Ability to undertake intensive daily travel across all councils in Lindi Region and work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required during the campaign.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills, including email, internet, and Microsoft Office applications, and ability to use digital devices and applications required for project implementation
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Kiswahili and English.
