In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases.

 

Jhpiego is hiring for the position of Program Officer based in Mizoram for the RISE Global Health Security project. The candidate will play an essential role in supporting the implementation of the project, in both animal and human health. The incumbent will assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of activities related to zoonotic disease prevention, and disease surveillance.

Responsibilities

  1. Outbreak Preparedness & Response:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance disease surveillance, reporting, and response mechanisms.
    • Enhance the capacity of frontline workers on active surveillance, early outbreak detection, response and reporting.
    • Support community-based surveillance efforts for early outbreak
    • Assist in enhancing the outbreak preparedness at the state, district and facility level
    • Coordination for laboratory trainings and facilitating specimen transportation pathways & other ways.

2.     Zoonotic Disease Spillover - Prevention:

  • Assist in the implementation of strategies for preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases at the animal-human interface.
  • Assist in the dissemination of risk communication materials to educate communities on preventing zoonotic disease spillovers.

3.     Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:

 

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with state and district officials, health facilities, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Support the Program Officer in organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, including logistical arrangements and participant coordination.

4.     Program Implementation:

  • Assist in the planning and execution of project activities, such as training programs, community-based surveillance enhancements, risk communication community engagement and biosecurity protocol implementations.
  • Monitor the progress of activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and reporting on key performance indicators.

5.     Data Management and Reporting:

  • Collect and manage data related to outbreak responses, laboratory confirmations, and community surveillance efforts.
  • Prepare regular reports in coordination with the Program Officer and other stakeholders, ensuring data accuracy and timely submission.

6.     Logistical Support:

  • Coordinate logistics for training sessions, simulations, and field visits, including venue arrangements, materials, and participant management.
  • Ensure the timely procurement and distribution of necessary resources and equipment for project activities.

7.     Additional Duties:

  • Perform or assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor to achieve the project goals.

 

Required Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduation in life sciences including health or veterinary science will be
  • Preference will be given to those with postgraduation or masters in relevant
  • 1-3 years of experience of working with government programs and systems for large scale public health programs.
  • Familiarity with the Indian Health System and/or Animal Husbandry system, and relevant government policies/ strategies.

 

Abilities/Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a multicultural
  • Ability to produce documents and coordinate activities independently
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and with diverse
  • Demonstrated analytical skills for data collection and
  • Proficiency in using technology for communication and data Proficiency in computer skills particularly MS Office
  • Excellent English, Hindi and/or local language communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills on communications and knowledge management

 

  • Willingness and flexibility to work on a wide range of tasks
