Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. For over 40 years, Jhpiego has partnered with governments, private sector, health experts, and communities to design and deliver innovative, evidence-based health solutions that strengthen health systems and improve the lives of women and families worldwide. In Kenya, Jhpiego is implementing two key malaria-focused projects aimed at improving uptake and coverage of IPTP in malaria-endemic counties as well as support the introduction of Multiple First-line Therapies (MFT) for managing uncomplicated malaria, aiming to strengthen treatment effectiveness and reduce drug resistance.
The Technical Officer – Malaria will provide technical expertise, coordination, planning, and supervision of these projects at county, sub-county, and health facility levels under the guidance of the Senior Malaria Advisor. The officer will jointly work with the project team to ensure successful implementation of activities, including work planning, budgeting, reporting, and supporting research and learning agendas, while fostering strong linkages with national and county health management teams and facility staff.
The Malaria project seeks to understand whether women can self-administer IPTp-SP and whether that can be enhanced with direct or Community Health Promoter (CHP)-mediated digital support, and what types of support are most effective based on a woman’s level of digital connectivity. The project will be implemented in Kenya, where the MoH is open to piloting self-administration of IPTp in malaria endemic counties to help improve uptake and coverage.
Reporting to the Senior Malaria Advisor, the Technical Officer Malaria will support the Jhpiego team in implementing Malaria IPTp and selected STOP AMDR activities at the county, subcounty and health facility levels as applicable. The TO will work closely with the county malaria control coordinators (CMCCs); county and subcounty HMTs and HF teams and will filter related requests for support and help shape our minimum package of care to the counties under his/her jurisdiction.
