Jhpiego is seeking qualified candidates for an anticipated new project in Guatemala that will support the delivery of life-saving services in the areas of Global Health Security, Nutrition, and Maternal Health.

Position Objective

Provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure the technical and programmatic integrity of life-savind project activities that respond to the country´s needs.

 

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Provide high-level technical direction and support to the project team to ensure the quality of life-saving interventions in nutrition, global health security, and maternal, newborn, and child health.
  • Develop the project work plan, oversee its implementation through quarterly and monthly plans, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Review and approve project strategies and materials to ensure alignment with MSPAS standards, high-level technical recommendations, and appropriateness for each health service.
  • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to develop the results framework, data collection, timely preparation and submission of technical reports, and dissemination of results.
  • Develop the work plan and ensure compliance and technical quality of activities implemented by project partners, in accordance with MSPAS and project technical and operational guidelines.
  • Lead the recruitment and oversight of technical consultants to ensure deliverables are executed as described and meet high-quality standards.
  • Receive training as needed to maintain the technical level required for implementing life-saving activities.

Programmatic

  • Ensure efficient use of project resources, including budget execution, in compliance with donor and Jhpiego policies.
  • Prepare and obtain approval for donor-required plans.
  • Serve as the project’s focal point with MSPAS, the donor, and other organizations.
  • Coordinate actions and maintain effective and respectful relationships with MSPAS and project partners.
  • Collaborate with project and/or global teams in the design, implementation, and monitoring of assigned components.
  • Ensure effective and respectful communication among all team members, fostering a cordial and collaborative environment.
  • Develop a risk management plan and monitor risks to act promptly.
  • Report any unforeseen events or risk situations within the project or that could affect it.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery, nutrition, or related public health fields; clinical specialization (preferred).
  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or related areas.
  • 9–10 years of experience in similar positions.
  • Experience and knowledge in implementing and closing international cooperation projects.
  • Experience in recruiting and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical and evidence-based expertise in project areas and in adapting global strategies to the national context.
  • Previous experience working in Guatemala and with MSPAS, with a deep understanding of the health system.
  • Strong skills in establishing and maintaining professional and interpersonal relationships with MSPAS representatives, donors, and other counterparts.
  • Availability to travel to project sites 40% of the time.
  • Professional English proficiency (intermediate to advanced).
