Overview

Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, is seeking a highly qualified Project Officer with excellent organizational skills, a team player, dedicated, hardworking, innovative, highly motivated and able to work in a high-pressure environment requiring multi-tasking abilities.

 

The Program Officer will serve as a key member of project implementation teams and will assist in the administrative, financial, logistical and programmatic tasks required for Jhpiego programs. This includes assisting with project administration including tracking project Gantt charts/ work plans, preparation of activity reports, and power point presentations. 

Responsibilities

  • Participate and support in the design, implementation and monitoring of the MCGL project activities
  • Assist with preparation and monitoring of project budgets. Also assist finance staff to review process and reconcile payment documentation from program staff. Help analyze reports received from field sites, including financial reports.
  • Travel as appropriate to program sites to assist in program logistics, including travel, financial arrangements, equipment and supplies coordination.
  • Prepare Program reports and be responsible for gathering field reports including photos and data reports from the program and writing of success stories.
  • Liaise with other relevant Jhpiego Malawi projects for leveraging opportunities.
  • Collate and maintain accurate information on the projects and sector interest.
  • Maintain records of project activities highlight problem areas and redress them and provide summaries to the Program Manager on a weekly basis.
  • Responsible for recording and disseminating program meeting minutes.
  • Ensure that required technical and administrative reports are submitted in a timely way.
  • Assist with organization of national, regional and international meetings, field visits, and other activities.
  • Assist in program material design and preparation
  • Any other duties assigned by management.
  • Assist in the preparation and development of annual / quarterly work plans and budgets
  • Assist Finance staff to review, process and reconcile payment documentation, program, technical staff, local implementing partners, consultants as well as from funded geographies
  • Travel as appropriate to program sites to assist in logistics, including financial arrangements, equipment and supply coordination
  • Help ensure that required technical and administrative reports by geographies are submitted and archived in a timely way.
  • Any other duties assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration ; Public Health, Social Sciences ; Project Management or a related field
  • 5 years’ experience in programs
  • Experienced in working with health or related programs especially RMNCH programing is an added advantage
  • Ability to work well as a team player
  • Ability to manage projects, set priorities, and plans for the successful implementation of program activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong change management, results oriented and decision making skills
  • Familiarity with U.S. Government donor policies and administrative procedures
  • Language: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Professional proficiency in Chichewa is required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to all project implementation areas
