In India, Jhpiego works across various states in close collaboration with national and state governments, providing technical assistance in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, strengthening human resources for health, and non-communicable diseases. Jhpiego is hiring for the position of Veterinary Public Health Specialist based in New Delhi for its Animal Health related projects. The position will work closely with the India country office and state office teams for strengthening the veterinary lab capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Design interventions, strategies and action plans to combat animal diseases, aligning with national and international guidelines/frameworks
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases at the animal-human interface.
  • Identify key priorities, gaps, and opportunities in disease prevention, surveillance, control, and respond
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the national and state-level animal health divisions to ensure alignment and synergies with ongoing efforts.
  • Facilitate intersectoral collaboration efforts among animal health, human health, wildlife, and other relevant sectors for One Health implementation
  • Foster relationships with government agencies, healthcare institutions, research organizations, private sector, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist state program managers in the effective implementation of project activities, providing technical support and coordination.
  • Assist in the organization of workshops, training sessions, community engagement and awareness campaigns related to animal health.
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data related to zoonotic diseases, and animal health surveillance.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports detailing project achievements, challenges, and recommendations for further enhancement.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of project activities and outcomes, contributing to regular progress reporting
  • Any tasks assigned by the supervisor

Required Qualifications

Abilities/Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with government agencies, international organizations, and NGOs in the animal health sector.
  • Ability to analyse data and produce documents and reports of professional quality and coordinate activities independently.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi required.
  • Computer skills demonstrating competency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to handle a variety of assignments under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a multi-cultural team.
  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with other team members, agencies, stakeholders and other organizations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently

Qualifications/Knowledge and Experience:

  • Mandatory: Graduate degree in veterinary sciences. Preferred: Masters/PhD
  • At least 7 years’ experience in implementing in animal health, zoonotic diseases, or veterinary public health.
  • Familiarity with the veterinary public health in India, one health approach, newer initiatives in the animal health sector and relevant government policies/ strategies particularly National Animal Disease Control Programme, and Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme.
  • Experience in capacity building e.g. developing content, planning, and facilitating training and providing technical assistance will be desirable.
