Overview

The Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) program is saving lives and improving health by controlling the HIV pandemic and strengthening global health security to limit the spread of deadly disease outbreaks. RISE uses evidence-based practices from over 20 years of PEPFAR implementation to address critical HIV priorities along with global health security (GHS), maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (MNCH-N), tuberculosis (TB), Malaria, data systems, supply chain and commodity management, and other cross-cutting areas. In Botswana, Jhpiego is recruiting for an anticipated new project supporting Botswana’s lifesaving HIV services.

Responsibilities

The Program Manager will provide day-to-day programmatic support for the RISE Botswana HIV Project, ensuring timely and efficient implementation of project activities in line with approved work plans and donor expectations. S/he will monitor the execution of the project’s technical and operational work plans, track deliverables, and coordinate internal and partner reporting. The Program Manager will be responsible for managing the work plans of sub-partners, monitoring achievement of milestones and deliverables, and ensuring compliance with Department of State award requirements. This position plays a central role in ensuring coordination, quality assurance, and adaptive management across project activities and partnerships.

Required Qualifications

  • Support day-to-day management of project activities in accordance with the approved work plan, ensuring timely and quality implementation across technical areas.
  • Coordinate with technical and operations teams to monitor project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, flagging and addressing any implementation bottlenecks.
  • Track and review partner work plans, budgets, and reports to ensure alignment with project objectives and Department of State compliance requirements.
  • Support preparation of donor reports, work plans, and success stories by synthesizing inputs from technical leads and sub-partners.
  • Continually assess project risks and institute mitigation measures in the scopes implemented by sub-partners
  • Liaise regularly with sub-partners and district teams to monitor progress, identify challenges, and facilitate solutions-oriented planning.
  • Ensure effective coordination across technical and cross-cutting areas, including MEL, capacity strengthening, and communications.
  • Assist in organizing and documenting key programmatic meetings, technical workshops, and coordination events.
  • Participate in regular review meetings and adaptive learning processes to ensure the use of data and evidence for decision-making and program improvement.
  • Monitor compliance with Department of State rules and regulations and Jhpiego’s organizational policies in the implementation of sub-award activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of project files and ensure timely submission of deliverables to the donor and internal systems.
  • Support quality assurance processes and contribute to the documentation of program innovations, lessons learned, and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public health, project management, business administration, or related field; or bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 7–10 years of program management experience, preferably with PEPFAR/Department of State-funded health programs.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing program implementation, work plan tracking, and reporting in complex health projects.
  • Experience working with sub-award management, monitoring partner deliverables, and ensuring donor compliance.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and coordination skills with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with project management and reporting tools.
  • Experience working in Botswana or similar contexts strongly preferred.
  • Availability to travel to project implementation sites as needed.
