Overview

The Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) program is saving lives and improving health by controlling the HIV pandemic and strengthening global health security to limit the spread of deadly disease outbreaks. RISE uses evidence-based practices from over 20 years of PEPFAR implementation to address critical HIV priorities along with global health security (GHS), maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (MNCH-N), tuberculosis (TB), Malaria, data systems, supply chain and commodity management, and other cross-cutting areas. In Botswana, Jhpiego is recruiting for an anticipated new project supporting Botswana’s lifesaving HIV services.

 

The Technical Advisor for HIV Care & Treatment will provide technical leadership for the implementation of high-quality community-based lifesaving HIV clinical services, including adult and pediatric ART, advanced HIV disease (AHD) management, differentiated service delivery (DSD), and treatment monitoring. The Advisor will supervise District Coordinators, guide implementation across districts, and support national partners to strengthen systems for continuous quality improvement (CQI), clinical supervision, and learning.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and provide technical guidance on care and treatment services across project-supported districts, including AHD and pediatric HIV care.
  • Supervise and mentor District Coordinators to ensure consistent implementation and performance monitoring.
  • Institutionalize CQI processes to improve treatment retention, viral suppression, and service quality.
  • Lead on-the-job training, skills development, and supportive supervision at district and national levels.
  • Promote learning and knowledge exchange through regular data review meetings, learning sessions, and dissemination of promising practices.
  • Collaborate with MOH and other stakeholders on national strategies, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training curricula.
  • Guide scale-up of differentiated care models, including community ART and multi-month dispensing (MMD).
  • Lead district teams to design and implement interventions to prevent treatment interruption, support re-engagement in care and ART continuity
  • Design and implement interventions to monitor and improve outcomes of clients on ART including ART continuity, viral suppression, mental health and others
  • Contribute to donor reporting, performance reviews, and documentation of program achievements.

Required Qualifications

  • Clinician registered with the Botswana Health Professions Council or Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in HIV care and treatment, including AHD and pediatric ART.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CQI, adaptive management, and learning.
  • Experience supervising teams and providing on-the-job clinical training.
  • KITSO-certified or equivalent certification in HIV clinical management.
  • Fluent in English and Setswana, with strong communication, coordination and technical writing skills.
