Overview

Jhpiego, with support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is supporting the Government of Nepal in strengthening national immunization systems in Nepal, with a focus on adolescent and school-based vaccination programs, including HPV. The Senior Technical Officer will play a central role in facilitating intersectoral coordination among key stakeholders—such as the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), Ministry of Education, youth organizations, and medical professional associations—to enhance planning, implementation, and oversight of adolescent immunization strategies.

This position will support the Family Welfare Division (FWD) in convening and documenting national-level convergence meetings, technical working groups (TWGs), and planning workshops, ensuring actionable outcomes and follow-up. The Senior Technical Officer will also contribute to strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring of immunization activities.

Duration: 5 months (Continuation of this position is subject to  the availability of funding.)

Reports to: Director – Jhpiego Nepal

Responsibilities

Coordination and Facilitation (50%)

  • Support FWD in organizing and facilitating regular national-level convergence meetings and TWGs related to adolescent and school-based immunization.
  • Ensure active participation from key stakeholders including MoHP, Ministry of Education, youth organizations, and medical associations.
  • Document meeting proceedings, decisions, and follow-up actions, and ensure timely dissemination to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and tracking of actionable plans and strategies emerging from convergence meetings.

Strategic Planning and Stakeholder Engagement (30%)

  • Collaborate with national and sub-national stakeholders to align immunization strategies with national health and education priorities.
  • Advocate for integrated approaches to adolescent health and immunization within existing platforms and programs.
  • Support FWD in strengthening national oversight mechanisms for HPV and adolescent vaccination programs.

Monitoring and Reporting (10%)

  • Track progress of planned activities and ensure timely reporting to Gavi and government counterparts.
  • Contribute to the development of technical briefs, reports, and presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Support documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for dissemination and advocacy.

Additional responsibilities (10%)

  • Liaise and formulate productive working relationships with counterparts on behalf of Jhpiego with government and other implementing partners, UNICEF and WHO
  • Perform or assume other Jhpiego activities as required and as assigned by the supervisor to ensure the smooth functioning to achieve the organizational goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Health Sciences preferred, Master's Degree
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in immunization programs in Nepal
  • Proven experience in stakeholder coordination and facilitation at the national and sub-national levels
  • Strong understanding of Nepal’s health and education systems
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Nepali
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration platforms
  • Ability to travel within Nepal as required

  • Experience in planning and documenting high-level meetings and workshops
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
