Qualitative Data Collectors

The Unitard-funded, Accelerating Measurable Progress and Leveraging Investments for Postpartum Haemorrhage Impact (AMPLI-PPHI) project expanded to Zambia and Nigeria in June 2024 as part of the European Union (EU) supported Safe Birth Africa (SBA) Initiative. AMPLI-PPHI / Zambia builds on and leverages Zambia’s PPH leadership and focused efforts to date, as well as the work across- Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, India, and Kenya, where AMPLI-PPHI started in 2022. The project aims to catalyze early adoption and lay the groundwork for scaling up of World Health Organization (WHO) recommended but under-utilized drugs (Heat Stable Carbetocin (HSC) and Tranexamic Acid (TXA)) for prevention and management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) at facility level and advance distribution of misoprostol for prevention of PPH at community level in high-burden countries, including Zambia. Jhpiego is leading this project in collaboration with the Zambia Association of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (ZAGO) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

As part of its learning agenda, this project is conducting a qualitative study to assess barriers and opportunities for advanced distribution of misoprostol for PPH prevention at births outside of health facilities in Zambia.

The  Data Collectors will be responsible for conducting key informant interviews focused on understanding the barriers and opportunities for the advance distribution of misoprostol for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) prevention at births outside of health facilities in Zambia. The data collectors will work under the supervision of the Zambia study lead/Principal Investigator and will be responsible for conducting interviews and other data collection activities as required by the study protocol

• Data Collection:
• Conduct key informant interviews (KIIs) with relevant stakeholders, including National and subnational-level policy makers and healthcare providers.
• Administer data collection tools (interview guides) accurately and consistently.
• Ensure informed consent is obtained from all participants before data collection.
• Record data accurately and completely, including audio recording of interviews (with participant consent) and detailed notetaking.
• Data Management:
• Ensure the confidentiality and security of all data collected.
• Maintain organized records of all data collection activities.
• Share audio recording and notes with the study team on a daily basis
• Logistics and Coordination:
• Arrange and schedule interviews with participants, ensuring recruitment is in line with study SOPs and research protocol.
• Travel to data collection sites within the designated areas.
• Coordinate with local community leaders and healthcare facilities to facilitate data collection.
• Manage and maintain data collection equipment (e.g., recorders, tablets).
• Ethical Considerations:
• Adhere to all ethical guidelines and protocols for research involving human subjects.
• Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all participants.
• Report any ethical concerns to the supervisor immediately.
• Other Duties:
• Attend training sessions on data collection methods and study protocols.
• Participate in team meetings and provide regular updates on data collection progress.
• Assist with other project-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor

• A minimum of a Diploma in Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Prior experience in qualitative data collection, including conducting IDIs is essential.
• At least 2 years’ experience working in qualitative research methods research projects, including stakeholder interviews, is highly desirable.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build rapport with participants from diverse backgrounds.
• Fluency in English
• Strong interviewing and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical research principles.
• Proficiency in using data collection tools (e.g., audio recorders).
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).

Other Requirements:

• Willingness to travel to rural areas within Zambia.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
