Overview

The WORLD Bank has been aiding the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh through United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to strengthen midwifery- led SRHR care in Bangladesh. Under this initiative, 28 midwives will be recruited and deployed to provide 24/7 NVD services along with other maternity care and SRH services at 13 selected health facilities (1 District Hospital, 6 Upazila Health Complexes, 2 Union Health Sub-centres and 4 Community Clinics) under Coxs’ Bazar, Chattogram and Noakhali district through the project titled “Midwifery-led SRMNCAH services in Cox's Bazar and Noakhali Host Communities Project (ISO Project)”

Responsibilities

 RESPONSIBILITIES

Midwife will work to accomplish the project objectives and will perform her assignments under the overall guidance and supervision of the District SRHR Coordinator, ISO Project, Jhpiego. She will be responsible to accomplish the following assignment:

  • Provide high quality pre-conception services, antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), essential newborn care (ENC), other reproductive and adolescent health care
  • Perform elementary tests for ANC (pregnancy test, Hb%, urine for albumin etc.), triple elimination tests- HIV, Hep-B and Syphilis etc. followed by referral of screening positive case to appropriate referral facilities/ providers for confirmation and further management
  • Identify risk pregnancy/ danger sign, communicate doctors/ consultants of the higher facilities for comprehensive emergency obstetric care and/or refer to the appropriate higher center
  • Conduct normal vaginal delivery following evidence-based care, use of partograph/ LCG AMTSL, HBB, neonatal resuscitation, initiate breast feeding, skin-to-skin tough/ KMC etc.
  • Identify perinatal complications (PPH, pre-eclampsia/ eclampsia, shock, hypothermia, birth asphyxia, hypothermia, sepsis etc.) at initial stage, provide primary management and refer the complicated cases to appropriate health facilities for further management
  • Provide postpartum family planning counseling and services
  • Provide post abortion care (PAC) and post abortion family planning (PAFP) services
  • Identify and 1st line support to SGBV survivors and referral to HGBV corner at UzHCs/ OCC of DSH
  • Ensure appropriate/ rational use of medicines/ drugs
  • Ensure supply, proper storage, maintain temperature for uterotonics, use and maintenance of MSR, instruments and update stock-ledger regularly
  • Documentation and reporting of maternal and neonatal health care services. Maintain performance display board
  • Provide health education to the adolescents, newly married couples, and postpartum women regarding hygiene practice, prevention of sexually transmitted infections and gender-based violence’s (GBV)

Capacity Development and Mentoring

  • Conduct on job training to the clinical aid, cleaner IPC, counselling of family planning and ANC, PNC services
  • Mentoring the clinical aid and cleaner during cleaning and autoclaving instrument

Monitoring and Supervision

  • Monitor and supervise proper waste management, environmental cleanliness, and infection prevent practices
  • Monitor the clinical aid when she calls mother according to monthly EDD list

Coordination

  • Active involvement to functionalize the UHFWC management committee along with effective referral system
  • Attend mother assembly/ courtyard meetings organized by the field staffs/ CHWs to create awareness, linkage among community people and the facilities along with availability and accessibility of dependable quality MNH/SRH care services at the facility

Safeguarding/ PSEA

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program's goals on safeguarding implementation
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case of any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so

Special Assignment

  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor and senior management team

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Midwifery from a renowned institution accredited by the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Valid registration and license as a Diploma Midwife in Bangladesh
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in NVD, ANC, PNC, ENC, FP services delivery
