Overview

 Position reports to: Country Director

Positions supervised: Technical Advisors (Nutrition, GHS, Maternal) and Senior Field Officers.

Location: Guatemala Office, with 30% field visits

Jhpiego is seeking qualified candidates for a new anticipated project in Guatemala that will support the delivery of life-saving services in the areas of Global Health Security, Nutrition, and Maternal-Newborn Health.

 

Position Objective

Provide leadership and strategic direction to ensure the technical and programmatic integrity of the project's life-saving activities and respond to the country's needs.

Responsibilities

Technical

  • Provide high-level technical direction and support to the project team to ensure the quality of life-saving interventions in the areas of nutrition, global health security, and maternal, neonatal, and child health.
  • Develop the project work plan, ensure its application in quarterly and monthly plans, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Review and approve project strategies and materials to ensure they align with MSPAS standards, high-level technical recommendations, and are appropriate for each health service.
  • Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to develop the results framework, data collection, preparation, and timely submission of technical reports.
  • Ensure compliance and technical quality of activities carried out by project partners, according to the approved schedule.
  • Lead the hiring and monitoring of technical consultants for the project to ensure it is executed as described and that their products are of high quality.
  • Receive training to ensure the required technical level for the implementation of life-saving activities, as necessary.
  • Ensure that activities carried out by local partners are conducted under MSPAS and project technical and operational guidelines.
  • Work closely with the project's M&E team to document and disseminate lessons learned and project results.

 Programmatic

  • Ensure the efficient use of project resources, including budget execution, in compliance with donor and Jhpiego policies.
  • Prepare and obtain approval for plans required by the donor, including environmental, communications, gender, and others.
  • Act as the project's focal point with MSPAS, the donor, and other organizations.
  • Coordinate actions and maintain an effective and respectful relationship with MSPAS and project partners.
  • Collaborate with project and/or global teams in the design, implementation, and monitoring of their component.
  • Ensure effective and respectful communication among all team members, fostering a cordial and collaborative environment.
  • Develop a risk plan and monitor it to act promptly.
  • Report any unforeseen or risk situation within the project or that could affect it.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree as a physician and surgeon, nutritionist, or related public health fields
  • Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, cooperation projects, or related fields
  • 9- 10 years of experience in similar positions.
  • Experience and knowledge in the implementation and closure of international cooperation projects.
  • Experience in hiring and managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Technical and evidence-based experience in the project's areas and in adapting global strategies to the national level.
  • Previous experience working in Guatemala and with MSPAS, with a deep understanding of the health system.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining professional and interpersonal relationships with MSPAS representatives, donors, and other counterparts.
  • Availability to travel to project sites 40% of the time.
  • Professional English from intermediate to advanced
