Overview

The Driver is a member of the Finance, Administration and Operations (FAO) Department of Jhpiego Liberia Office. Under the Supervision of the Logistics Officer, the driver will be responsible for transporting Jhpiego staff and visitors, and materials to project sites, including loading and unloading of vehicles.  Drivers are always expected to drive vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with the Liberia laws and policies, following traffic rules and regulations and follow the Jhpiego vehicle and transport policy.

Responsibilities

Driving

  • Understand the basic operations and maintenance requirements for vehicles
  • Always ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers
  • Treat passengers with respect and courtesy regardless of gender, age, religion or nationality
  • Always keep the supervisor informed if driving at night or if driving into areas considered potentially unsafe
  • Never use vehicle for personal use
  • Deliver and pick up material and documents at offices following the instructions accurately
  • Assist passengers with schedules, routes and direction information
  • Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor and always respond to calls by Jhpiego for duty.

 Repair and maintenance

  • Always keep the vehicle neat and clean
  • Refuel vehicle as and when required
  • Complete daily safety and maintenance checks of vehicle. Perform minor maintenance, repair and cleaning work on vehicles; (e.g. replace bulbs, refill radiator water, change tires).
  • Ensure timely vehicle service: engine oil change and other lubricants i.e. brake fluid, engine oil, when required

Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate vehicle records including vehicle log, fuel, oil change, maintenance record and others as required
  • Assist the Logistics Officer in the Submission of monthly report on all activities including fuel consumption, vehicle maintenance, vehicle expense, warehouse inventory, etc.
  • Support the Logistics Officer in demonstrating accountability for the completion of tasks including but not limited to tracking vehicle expenses in accordance with the respective procurement policy,
  • Provide support to fuel replenishment or purchase and coordination with gas station(s)/service providers

 

Safety & Security

  • Comply with all applicable safety and security requirements, laws and regulations, for example:  ensure that all passengers use safety belts; keeping speed limits, not driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Notify supervisor of any safety or maintenance concerns
  • Not to carry unauthorized passengers (adults or children) in Jhpiego vehicles
  • Not to leave the vehicle unattended to at any time.

 

Teamwork

  • Perform duties within the context of the Jhpiego FAO team objectives
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, and other employees
  • Perform other job as will be assigned

 

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Assigned Jhpiego vehicle
  • Vehicle Fuel card (Tom Card)
  • Passenger safety when driving

 

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH:

Drivers, Logistics Officer, Technical/Program Team, and FAO staff

Required Qualifications

  • At least three years of driving experience with an international NGO
  • Valid driver’s license and extensive driving experience required
  • Clean driving record and no criminal record
  • Good spoken English
  • Thorough technical knowledge of Toyota Land Cruiser, Ford Ranger and Nissan vehicles
  • Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word
  • High School Diploma
  •
