Overview

Jhpiego seeks to recruit a highly motivated Finance Intern to be based in Lilongwe. The Finance Intern will be part of the Finance team. He/she will assist Jhpiego Malawi’s Finance and Administration Team with various Finance tasks and projects, and support Finance policies and procedures. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand experience and exposure to different areas of Finance and Administration, and to learn from experienced professionals. This role will provide the intern with valuable experience and skills that are beneficial for a future career in Finance and Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in financial data entry, recording transactions, and maintaining financial records in accounting software or spreadsheets.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports, statements, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
  • Assist the finance officer in compilation and filing of the VAT returns to MRA.
  • Assist the finance officer in reconciling bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Participate in audits and compliance reviews by providing documentation and assisting with audit preparations.
  • Support finance team members in ad-hoc projects, special assignments, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining financial databases, spreadsheets, and reports, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and networking events to develop skills, expand knowledge, and build professional relationships.
  • Provide administrative support to finance team members, such as scheduling meetings, organizing files, and handling correspondence.
  • Take the initiative to learn about different areas of finance, ask questions, and seek opportunities for growth and development.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration
  • Candidates with more than 12 months’ work experience cannot be considered for this Internship role.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel is required. PowerPoint skills would be an advantage.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work as part of the Finance Team.
  • Be of high integrity and have a sense of confidentiality
  • Be willing to take on extra responsibilities in order to achieve the goals/objectives set by the organization
