Overview

The Medical Assistant (Lab) is a part of the Jhpiego’s Strengthening Midwifery led and SRHR care in Bangladesh funded by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to introduce “Triple Elimination Initiative” in Chandpur district. She will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the triple elimination initiative activities at Chandpur District Hospital. She will ensure the delivery of high-quality laboratory service in the Antenatal Care (ANC) room to ensure the proper screening for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in the planning of laboratory setup.
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance planning.
  • Plan and prepare annual and quarterly logistics requirements for the laboratory at the upazila level.
  • Support preparing quality assurance tools and guidelines in line with the national guidelines.
  • Maintain safety measures for infection prevention and control in the laboratory.
  • Maintain optimum standards to ensure the proper screening for HIV, syphilis, and hepatitis B & C following the SOP and guidelines.
  • Ensure maintenance of laboratory equipment as per the SOP and guidelines.
  • Ensure quality investigation and report processing within the facility.
  • Ensure hygienic disposal of laboratory waste materials.
  • Maintain contact tracing register for ANC–1 mother and refer screening positive cases to the appropriate center for further management.
  • Periodic monitoring of the Laboratory.
  • Ensure OPD areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and that all consultations are conducted in a dignified and respectful manner.
  • Experiences on laboratory sample collection such as blood, urine, stools etc.

Safeguarding/ PSEA

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action. She will follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, encourage others to do so.
  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation to achieve the program's goals on safeguarding implementation. She will act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

Special Assignment 

  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor and senior management team.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in Medical Technology.
  • Valid registration and licensure as a Diploma in Medical Technology.
  • Minimum 1/2 years practical experience in NGO.
  • Previous Experience in NGO Health Sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team, under pressure and in a sensitive environment
  • Some experience in or understanding of the health sector
  • Ability to work under extreme circumstances, including under stress, high security risks and harsh living conditions. Works and lives with a flexible, adaptable and resilient manner.
  • Working with trustworthiness and integrity and has a clear commitment to Save the Children’s core values and humanitarian principles
  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to gender and diversity
  • Good communication skills in English, and Bangla
