Jhpiego is looking for a creative and dynamic Sr Advisor, MNH Knowledge Solutions eager to lead AlignMNH’s efforts to collect, curate and connect MNH stakeholders to knowledge in meaningful ways to catalyze action.  AlignMNH is a five-year initiative funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) with the United States Department for International Development (USAID), and is guided by an International Steering Committee of 20 global thought leaders working in collaboration with a Secretariat led by Jhpiego.  The initiative seeks to align global maternal and newborn health (MNH) priorities, metrics, financing and action in support of accelerated improvements in MNH and well-being in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Inclusive of a bi-annual conference series and an online Knowledge Hub, AlignMNH seeks to increase opportunities for sharing of technical evidence and program experiences, nurture opportunities for cross-country engagement, dialogue and learning and encourage use of metrics and application of evidence-based practices.   


About this role:

Drawing on principles of knowledge management and behavioral science, this position will lead in the design and implementation of strategies and knowledge products that reach audiences where they are, with the evidence, resources and tools they need and in formats that encourage learning and action to improve uptake of best practices in MNH.  The Sr Advisor will drive the development of and oversee AlignMNH’s Knowledge Hub and dissemination activities using targeted and innovative knowledge management, communications, advocacy and dissemination strategies that address different learning styles and maximize interaction and collaboration to inspire action.   This position will also contribute to the development of communications for virtual convenings and the bi-annual international conference series.


  • Ensure cohesion of AlignMNH’s knowledge management, technical communications and technical advocacy efforts through integrated approaches that address the needs of target audiences and foster the uptake and application of learning
  • Contribute to shaping the AlignMNH brand and establishing the initiative as a vibrant knowledge sharing community and the go-to knowledge resource for the maternal and newborn health community
  • Lead the strategic direction and ongoing development of the AlignMNH Knowledge Hub, including content curation, packaging and outreach
  • Oversee efforts of staff maintaining the site and coordinate efforts of staff and partners curating and contributing content to the site
  • Design and disseminate knowledge products, informed by user-insights, to capture the interest and attention of key audiences mindful of barriers and opportunities to knowledge sharing and use
  • Design and implement dissemination and marketing strategies using novel or existing dissemination channels, including the AlignMNH Knowledge Hub, as well as other tactics and tools that foster sustained engagement among key audiences with AlignMNH content mindful of the diversity of learning styles among stakeholders
  • Lead efforts to assess impact of knowledge solutions efforts through routine review of project data, site analytics, and user insights and feedback
  • Establish and oversee regular processes and opportunities for user engagement to continually seek input into AlignMNH’s knowledge solutions activities, including the Knowledge Hub
  • Ensure AlignMNH activities are responsive to user needs and behavioral factors that impact user engagement and knowledge translation
  • Lead audience engagement strategies and related efforts
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and implement strategies to engage target users
  • Develop relationships within and outside Jhpiego to expand the reach and maximize the impact of the AlignMNH initiative through the strategic and intentional leveraging of other projects and partnerships
  • Support implementation of the AlignMNH Strategic Roadmap across initiative to prioritize content, engagement activities, campaigns, etc. as well as the development of communications content for the conference series and virtual engagements, including for the website and mobile app
  • Contribute to the development and execution of communications and promotion strategies for convenings and virtual engagement activities, including supporting the development of conference communications collateral and assets, liaising with global marketing and communications vendors and implementing related activities
  • Work with technology partners to ensure consistent branding for virtual engagement series and other convenings in coordination with Senior Communications Specialist


Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • 7 years' experience designing and implementing knowledge management, technical communications and advocacy activities within global health programs
  • Understanding of key trends, emerging capabilities and current best practices in core KM functions such as knowledge exchange, knowledge translation and use, communities of practice, KM and communications technologies
  • Experience managing multiple dissemination channels and knowledge management tools and techniques including websites, virtual learning platforms, social media platforms, newsletters, learning exchanges, etc.
  • Experience creating and disseminating knowledge assets that engage users and facilitate the application of learning
  • Familiarity with user-informed design principles and the behavioral drivers of knowledge sharing and use
  • Familiarity with priority issues in maternal and newborn health preferred
  • Experience with international conferences, virtual and/or hybrid convenings, webinars and other virtual mechanisms for knowledge exchange
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex technical information in ways that resonate with target audiences
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to produce high quality content for technical audiences
  • Experience working with global health organizations, donor organizations, and with a wide range of target audiences, including national ministries of health, policymakers, program managers, researchers, technical experts, advocates, etc.  
  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex environments with competing priorities and evolving needs and to work under intense pressure and with short deadlines
  • A doer and strategic thinker with a proven track record of developing and implementing strategies
  • Flexibility and the ability to juggle priorities and fill gaps as needed. Willingness to work outside of comfort zone
  • Experience with WordPress, HTML, CSS and JavaScript or other related software or programs
  • Ability to travel to internationally
  • Fluency in French, Spanish or Portugues preferred
  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Canva preferred
