  • Overview

    The Senior Demand Creation Advisor will lead Jhpiego’s demand creation strategies and operations, as well as related technical assistance for a PEPFAR/CDC-funded voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) for HIV prevention project in eSwatini. This project is financially supported by the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is expected to last through September 2020. Eswatini nationals are highly encouraged to apply. This project is based in Mbabane, Eswatini.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead demand creation strategy for VMMC services across several Tinkhundlas; apply human-centered design approaches to develop an understanding of key barriers and motivators of VMMC uptake, as well as untapped opportunities to connect VMMC to would be client aspirations.
    • With the Project Director and Ministry of Health, provide support for national-level demand creation planning, implementation, measurement, and improvement.
    • Ensure demand creation activities align with overall project strategy, CDC/PEPFAR commitments, Ministry of Health priorities and policy, and market conditions
    • Evaluate the impact of Jhpiego demand creation activities. Track and report on a monthly/quarterly basis and propose corrective action if required
    • Contribute to program reviews, evaluation of results and development of activity plans to ensure key performance indicators are clearly defined and met efficiently and in a timely manner
    • Champion a consumer-centric approach to all activities that builds empathy with consumers and translates insights into effective solutions
    • Participate in technical working groups and other fora, contributing to development of tools and communication materials.
    • Coordinate with local/civil society organizations (CSOs) to ensure appropriate demand creation support and alignment to achieve the project objectives
    • Oversee all marketing activities including management of third-party advertising and any experiential agencies to ensure they meet project objectives
    • Collaborate with Jhpiego team members, CSOs and consortium partners to improve existing demand creation structures and scale up best practices to help drive sustainable demand creation activities.
    • Ensure practical use of financial resources and that demand creation activities are conducted in line with the workplan and available budget.
    • Support dissemination of learnings, best practices and new technical strategies both internally and externally including representing the project in professional circles
    • Provide input into donor reporting, author and co-author presentations, abstracts, manuscripts, technical briefs and development of communication materials.

    Required Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in marketing, business, communication, public health, or a related field
    • 8 years of professional experience in communication and marketing
    • Experience in the health sector and knowledge of VMMC programming strongly preferred
    • Familiarity with cultural norms in eSwatini
    • Proven track record of effective marketing, behavior change and communications programs
    • Experience working with human-centered design approaches and leveraging consumer insights for program design
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills; able to develop strong relationships across functions, abilities and work levels
    • Demonstrated coaching skills, with an ability to inspire, influence and motivate teams
    • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including presentations
