  • Overview

    Director, Corporate and Foundation Partnerships works with the New Program Development, Program, Technical, External Communications, Finance and Human Resources teams worldwide to secure funding from private sector companies and foundations.  This position formulates and executes related organizational strategy for increased diversification of funding from these sources.  The position serves as Jhpiego’s in-house ‘expert’ for corporate and foundation fundraising, and stewards the development of partnerships to support Jhpiego programs.  The successful candidate will also integrate/leverage corporate and foundation funding with other funding streams, such as the US Government. This position will assist Jhpiego to successfully implement its Strategic Plan by leading efforts to build internal capacity to position, cultivate and effectively solicit corporate and foundation sponsors to save lives, improve health and transform futures around the globe.




    • Effectively identify, develop, manage and secure new corporate and foundation partnerships.
    • Meet revenue targets set in coordination with senior leadership
    • Provide leadership for Jhpiego on foundation and corporate relations; serve as overall steward for all foundation and corporate opportunities and partnerships
    • Guide Jhpiego staff in the area of corporate and foundation stewardship
    • Work closely with senior staff to refine and implement a corporate and foundation fundraising strategy to strengthen and grow foundation and corporate partnerships and associated funding
    • Represent Jhpiego in external relations for corporate and foundation partnerships – including networking, cultivating, attending and leading strategic partner meetings, and engaging in regular direct communication with current and prospective corporate and foundation partners. Accompany senior Jhpiego staff – including President and CEO, Vice President(s), or others – on corporate and foundation site visits, as appropriate.
    • Elevate knowledge management efforts to enable multiple staff to contribute to securing corporate and foundation resources
    • Ideate with senior leadership about bold, transformative partnerships and craft related pitch ideas that can result in sole source, RFP, blended finance etc.)
    • Analyze and advise on technical, business and financial and other risk of new opportunities
    • Facilitate go/no go decisions
    • Work with Jhpiego colleagues to determine which countries and technical areas are most competitive for open opportunities
    • Assure proposals include a strong value proposition, theory of change (as appropriate), objectives and outcome metrics. Ensure all pitches are aligned with interests of the sponsor, good development practice and emphasis on impact
    • Identify appropriate organizational proposal teams and related resources for the production of proposals and program pitches.
    • Serve as capture manager, and in some cases proposal manager, which may involve guiding or drafting writing outlines, creating slides, editing content and formulating sensitive communication with sponsors. As an exception, this could include capture on US Government opportunities.   
    • Refine corporate and foundation proposal processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency. Support staff training efforts to ensure that New Program Development endeavors are streamlined, effective and efficient.
    • In collaboration with key staff, adapt proposal development resources to meet foundation and corporate audience needs including Jhpiego’s Proposal Resource Guide, corporate capability statements, monitoring and evaluation plans and structuring of budgets
    • Assure compliance with Jhpiego operational policies and regulations


    Required Qualifications

    • 10+ years' relevant experience
    • Advanced degree in business, international development, public health or related field, or commensurate analytical skills, experience and track record of success
    • Demonstrated success in securing funds from foundation corporate sponsors for a non-profit
    • Existing corporate and foundation contacts in positions of influence
    • Demonstrated global public health project design skills for low-resource settings 
    • Ability to develop and execute strategy for complex donor engagements, matching public health needs, Jhpiego assets and donor interests
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively synthesize and organize others’ ideas into cogent narrative
    • Understanding of global health issues (reproductive health, family planning, maternal health, HIV/AIDS and infectious diseases) as they relate to Jhpiego’s technical and programmatic areas, and understanding of current global health funding priorities and players
    • Understanding of drivers which motivate private sector and foundation partnerships
    • Strong change management, results oriented and decision making skills
    • Excellent skills in facilitation, team building, management of cross-functional teams and coordination
    • Team oriented with strong interpersonal skills
    • Strong initiative highly motivated to support Jhpiego’s mission
    • Superb verbal, written and presentation skills
    • Ability to self manage and pritoritze in fast paced environment
    • Culturally sensitive, with an ability to effectively work with professionals from the developing world and across the NGO, academic and private sectors
    • Ability to travel internationally in the developing world


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience living in a low-resource setting (developing world)
    • Experience conducting co-design sessions
    • Familiarity with USAID, CDC and other international donors
    • Fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese
