  • Overview

    Editor II needed to write and edit Jhpiego organizational and project-related publications, correspondence, operating documents, external communications and other materials for a variety of audiences and purposes. This includes managing the editing, review and finalization of publications projects from their arrival in department to the final production stage. Edit and write materials on a variety of public health topics.




    • Edit and/or write materials on a variety of public health topics, ensuring technical accuracy, editorial consistency, clarity and appropriateness for the intended audience, including:
      • Reports
      • Journal articles
      • Technical briefs
      • Training materials
      • Website information
      • Other communications pieces
    • Collaborate with technical specialists and partner organizations to create structure and form in the writing and editing of lengthy manuals and new health standards
    • Mentor Editors in Jhpiego style and standards and provide guidance in meeting client needs and organizational priorities
    • Review the work of Editors as needed to assure quality content
    • Perform literature reviews and Internet research on selected topics
    • Collaborate with authors on content development, editing and submission of journal articles, marketing materials, operating documents and other related materials
    • Manage multiple projects of different types independently, with involvement of Director or other colleagues as needed
    • Independently solve problems encountered in the development, review and production of Jhpiego materials
    • Guide the work with design/desktop publishing staff in developing formats and designs that innovatively produce content for internal and external audiences
    • May supervise staff


    Required Qualifications

    • BA in writing, health sciences or related field; MA preferred
    • 7+ years editing, writing and project management experience in health-related and/or international development environment
    • Well-developed knowledge of global health work and priority technical areas
    • Strong editing and writing skills and ability to transition smoothly between a wide variety of projects from those for technically sophisticated audiences to compelling stories for the general public
    • In-depth knowledge of health and international development issues
    • Knowledge of USAID and other international donor agencies’ guidelines
    • Technical knowledge of family planning, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and maternal health issues, programs and terminology
    • Knowledge of public health in a global context
    • Strong decision-making skills and results-oriented approach
    • Demonstrated self-management, initiative and problem solving
    • Advanced knowledge of grammar, usage, and editorial style and guidelines
    • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
    • Ability to proactively organize and manage own work
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities and meeting deadlines
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability and flexibility to work independently and with teams in a fast-paced deadline- driven environment
    • Ability to network with health and publications professionals
    • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior supervisory experience
    • Foreign language proficiency desired, particularly in French, Portuguese, or Spanish
