    We are seeking experienced individuals with excellent organizational and technical skills, who are team players, dedicated, hardworking, innovative, highly motivated and able to work in a high-pressure environment requiring multi-tasking abilities.


    Reporting to the Country Director, the Senior Technical Advisor will provide technical and program oversight and direction in the area of malaria in pregnancy (MIP)   Reproductive health   and other new health areas the Uganda Country office will be required to expand their programming. This position is expected to increase competitiveness of the Uganda office in Technically engaging stakeholders and donors, and also expand Jhpiego- Uganda’ s   technical participation in various health related forums and working groups.

    The technical advisor will serve as the main internal resource to all MAPD Jhpiego staff, and the Country Director on all technical aspects especially for new business development. This position will ensure the technical and methodological soundness of activities and, in collaboration with the project team and partners, support the design of service delivery strategies, based on sound and current scientific evidence. The position holder will be based in Kampala



    • Provide technical oversight, strategic direction and ensure appropriate support for the implementation of program activities in any health areas the country office will be engaged in.
    • Promote Global recommendations on the core health areas Jhpiego Uganda will be implementing, ensuring technical soundness of our programming.
    • Contribute to annual work planning and preparation of donor reports
    • Contribute to maintaining excellent relationships with donors and in-country stakeholders and develop rapid responses to donor requests
    • Work closely with the Technical Team on setting program priorities and directions, and responding to requests for support from local counterparts.
    • Work with M&E staff to design, implement a plan to track data/results of core program areas of implementation.

    Required Qualifications

    • A medical degree (doctor or nursing) or Master’s in Public Health
    • Ugandan nationals with experience of at least 7 years in technical positions in health
    • At least 7 years’ experience applying malaria in pregnancy programs;
    • At least 5 years’ experience in managing $10M per year in donor-funded projects and in the design and implementation of large health projects; preferably in the East Africa;
    • Skill in at least two or more of the following technical areas: strengthening service delivery programs, training, pre-service education, performance and quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation
    • Experience with a mix of practical technical skills in malaria and reproductive health necessary for strengthening malaria service delivery , Maternal neo-natal care and scale up of Long activing contraceptives at, national, clinical and community-level
    • The ability to liaise with senior MOH officials, donors especially UN agencies and USAID, executives of NGOs, FBOs, CBOs, the for-profit business community, and senior members of the donor community;
    • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of Ugandan healthcare system, particularly the public health system, experience living and working in Uganda preferred
    • Strong oral and written communication and presentations skills in English
    • Strong skills in word processing and Excel spread sheets
    • Familiarity with UN agencies, USAID, or other USG administrative, management and reporting procedures and systems
    • Proven track record managing a project team composed of several technical experts and fostering team work
    • Ability to coach, mentor and develop technical capacity in national programs and technical staff in the areas
    • Excellent written, presentation, communication and organizational skills in English

    Preferred Qualifications
