  • Overview

    Medical Officer needed to support a district-based voluntary medical male circumcision program and work with other Clinical Associates and clinical teams in Direct Service Delivery and Continuous Quality Improvement in VMMC procedures.

     

    Medical Officer may be appointed to serve one or two districts, as such applicants must be prepared to be based at any of the following stipulated district areas:

     

    1. KZN Province (uMgungundlovu, uThukela, uMkhanyakude, uGu, King Cetshwayo/uThungulu, eThekwini)
    2. Western Cape (City of Cape Town)

     

    Responsibilities

    • Direct service delivery to clients

    • Supervise Clinical associates and support staff in the delivery of safe, high-quality, high-volume VMMC services, including the use of the correct VMMC surgical technique by age
    • Works within a consortium of partnering organizations, including the supervisory structure of the placement facility, to assure that VMMC services run smoothly and VMMC targets are achieved
    • Responsible for continuous clinical quality improvement at facility level
    • Adheres to locally and internationally recognized standards of quality in VMMC for HIV prevention
    • Ensure rapid reporting and response to any client adverse events
    • Supports monitoring and recording of service delivery data

     

     

     

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Recognised Medical Degree (MBChB, or equivalent)

    • 2+ years’ experience in a public sector primary health care setting
    • Valid registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice Medical Practitioner)
    • Experience in implementing HIV prevention programming preferred
    • Experience in leading a clinical team preferred
    • Formal training, certification and experience with VMMC for HIV prevention preferred
    • Able to take initiative and juggle multiple priorities without compromising high standards
    • Demonstrated ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy, as part of a team effort
    • Experience with QA/quality improvement and supervision approaches preferred
    • Experience with clinical training preferred
    • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Must be multilingual
    • Must be willing to travel
