Overview

Reporting to the Vice President, the Advancement Manager – East Coast collaborates in designing and building a robust major gift program and pipeline for Jhpiego. This individual leads special events and efforts to locate new propects as the cornerstone activities to secure major gifts ($10,000 plus) and build our networks. Jhpiego’s fundraising program will progressively increase to achieve a 2020 goal of over $2,000,000. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in best practice fundraising and event management, a proven track record of creating and implementing effective donor events, and be skilled in the art of engaging constituents. The Advancement Manager is a member of Jhpiego’s fundraising team and supports the fundraising activities conducted by his/her colleagues as well as a variety of internal stakeholders, including the senior leadership team and Advisory Board. The Advancement Manager is a member of the Global Engagement and Communications Office (GECO) department within Jhpiego.

 

 

Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

  • Works collectively with two other Advancement Managers to design and implement appropriate individual donor engagement and cultivation strategies for major gift donors and prospects
  • Develops prospect pipelines and donor groups in new geographic markets on the East Coast including Baltimore, Washington, DC, New York, and others to be determined
  • Builds and manages a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors with the goal of carrying approximately 150 active accounts over time
  • Presents donor engagement and sponsorship strategies to the Vice President to fulfill the annual major gifts event fundraising goal.  
  • Engages and cultivates individuals and corporations to participate in events as donors or sponsors.
  • Works collaboratively with two other Advancement Managers on the East and West Coast to engage and cultivate individuals outside of event participation
  • Supports the President and CEO and other leadership members in their all-around fundraising efforts with major gift donors and sponsors
  • Serves as the day-to-day contact for East Coast based Advisory Board members, supplementing the efforts of the Vice President
  • Performs duties as assigned by the Vice President

 

Events - General

  • Organizes and manages special events from start to finish including:
    • Established the overall event timeline and calendar to serve as the guide post for all internal and volunteer efforts and their roles, responsibilities and timeline for execution
    • Responsible for volunteer leadership recruitment, training and oversight of all related volunteer activities to ensure successful implementation of special event action plans
      • Leadership recruitment may include Advisory Board members, internal staff members and Senior Leaders and corporate staff
      • Works with the event hosts to secure sponsorships and a personal distribution list of VIP guests
    • Produces detailed event logistics (e.g. day-of timeline, venues, suppliers, legal obligations, staffing and budgets)
    • Secures speakers or special guests
    • Implements follow up engagement strategies with newly or highly engaged participants in conjunction with the Vice President
    • Coordinates volunteer recruitment, training (e.g., event registration) and committee participation
    • Oversees the event budgets

Communications and Systems

  • Oversees the promotional activities of each event by developing a communications plan, inclusive of social media outreach; collaborates with the Communications team to create the necessary event materials (e.g., invitations, tickets)
  • Serves as a day-to-day contact for East Coast based Advisory Board members
  • Maintains open communications with department personnel and colleagues; responds to and liaises with other departments and program managers when needed

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE and Master’s degree in fundraising, marketing, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years progressive experience with major gifts, with a proven track record of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors ($10,000 plus) and corporate sponsorships in the range of $10,000 to $100,000+
  • 3+ years' experience in event management
  • Highly motivated and proactive; independent self-starter and an entrepreneur who can work with little direction and with a “lean” staff
  • Detailed oriented, with the ability to multitask and run a best-in-class event
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor, with abilities to keep information confidential and interact with varying levels of leadership across the organization
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Publisher, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Significant experience with donor software systems (Raiser’s Edge)
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends with 35% travel to donors’ homes or event destinations and Jhpiego’s headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland
