Overview

Field Coordinators needed to support a district-based voluntary medical male circumcision program in the uThungulu and eThekwini districts.  This includes supporting and managing mobilization, demand creation and linkage activities at the sub-district and community level.  Reporting to the Field Manager and working in close coordination with the MMC Site Coordinators, Field Coordinator will also support routine and event-based mobilization and service delivery activities (campaigns) and will oversee and supervise community mobilizers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure close coordination between service sites and community-based demand creation teams

  • Lead and manage teams of community mobilizers, ensuring a solution-focused approach to overcoming challenges in demand generation

  • Maintain an up-to-date list of MMC static and outreach services and liaise regularly with site managers to confirm their service schedules and plan visits to perform record review

  • Supervise and motivate mobilizers by phone and via weekly/biweekly community visits; empower champion mobilizers to take progressive responsibility

  • Perform routine visits to MMC service sites and to communities to collect the necessary service and transport data to fill out the male circumcision tracking sheet

  • Ensure mobilizers receive the necessary materials (e.g. forms, airtime) to fulfill their responsibilities

  • Ensure regular supervision and support to mobilizers

  • With the mobilizers, maintain positive relations with community

  • Maintain positive health-facility/outreach relations

  • Collect, consolidate and report data on monthly basis

 

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience in community-based health or HIV programming
  • Relevant post-secondary training preferred (HIV prevention, HIV testing and counseling, data collection and management)
  • Strong familiarity with HIV and community-based programs in KZN Province
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication and motivation skills
  • Ability to work independently in a high-pressure environment
